Designing a Corporate Governance Model with the Approach of Commercializing the Country's Airports

Abstract

Background & Purpose: Background and purpose: Considering the importance of the airport sector, the current research seeks to design a corporate governance model with the approach of commercializing the country's airports.
Methodology: The current research has a mixed approach. Thematic analysis strategy was used in the qualitative part. The statistical population of the qualitative step included organizational experts and university professors, and 17 semi-structured interviews were conducted using the purposeful sampling method. After coding and analysis, the research data were organized into three levels of basic, organizing and comprehensive themes. A descriptive-survey strategy was used in a small part. The statistical population in this step included the experts of the Civil Aviation Organization who were selected purposefully. The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed through convergent and divergent validity and its reliability was confirmed through Cronbach's alpha. Quantitative data analysis was done through structural equation modeling.
Findings: Based on qualitative data analysis, research findings for corporate governance with the approach of commercializing the country's airports in five overarching themes and twenty-three organizing themes, company structure (company structure design, reporting structure, specialized committees, company communications); Accountability (supervision and control of performance, accountability, social responsibility, improvement of cooperation); Organizational culture (talent management, organizational motivation, ethics, organizational leadership development), company infrastructure (company policy, company processes, company strategy, mission definition, regulation) commercialization (performance improvement, financial sustainability, investment promotion, continuous growth, financial health, improving transparency) were categorized. Also, the analysis of the data of the quantitative part indicated the validity of the model of the qualitative part.
Conclusion: Corporate governance is the mechanisms, processes and relationships by which companies are controlled and their operations are implemented. Considering that airports play an important role in the economic development of societies, the attention and use of the findings of this research will lead to the optimal use of the capacities of the airport sector.
