Cognitive warfare strategies in air defense

Abstract
Background & Purpose: Cognitive warfare will be one of the most important wars in the future, and with the advancement of aerospace technologies and the emergence of smart drones and missiles, enemies will increasingly use cognitive warfare to influence decision-making, human attitude and mindware. Therefore, the purpose of the research is to formulate the strategies of the Shakhti war in air defense.
Methodology: This applied research has been done using sequential mixed method. In the qualitative phase, identifying strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities has been the main goal. The participants of this stage included a number of defense experts who were selected based on the characteristics of accessibility, having publications related to air defense and being ready for an interview. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed by thematic analysis using MAXQDA software. In the quantitative part, strategies were determined according to the SWOT matrix. The statistical population of this step included air defense experts. Sampling was done by 7 method and the data of this stage was collected and analyzed through a questionnaire.
Findings: The factors identified in this study were categorized into four strategies: A) adaptive-conservative strategies, B) offensive strategies, C) competitive strategies, and D) defensive strategies. According to the analyses conducted, air defense in the field of cognitive warfare is in a defensive state and has both weaknesses and faces threats. Therefore, designing the air defense of the Islamic Republic of Iran in cognitive warfare with the aim of protecting systems and strengthening the ability to deal with new threats is necessary.
Conclusion: Improving the current situation of these factors in defense organizations can help to improve the level of cognitive resilience of employees, and the Air Defense Force of the Iranian Armed Forces can act as an important actor not only in the physical battlefield, but also in cognitive warfar.
