Background & Purpose: The comprehensive training and education system in the Islamic Republic of Iran Army (AJA), as one of the main pillars of developing defense capabilities, plays a decisive role in improving the skills, specialized knowledge, and operational readiness of the armed forces. In the field of air defense, technical complexities, rapid technological changes, and the need for coordination between different operational units have doubled the importance of effective implementation of this system. However, the existence of various obstacles and challenges can prevent the full realization of the goals of this system. Accordingly, the present study was conducted with the aim of identifying and analyzing the obstacles and challenges of implementing the comprehensive training and education system of AJA in the field of air defense.
Methodology: The present study is of an applied type that was conducted with a mixed exploratory method (qualitative-quantitative). In the qualitative part, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 experts (until theoretical saturation was reached) and the data were analyzed using the content analysis method and MaxQDA software. In the quantitative part, the opinions of 100 commanders and instructors were examined with a researcher-made questionnaire. For the validity of the instrument, experts used Cronbach's alpha (above 0.7) and for reliability, Cronbach's alpha (above 0.7) was used. Quantitative data analysis was performed with a single-sample t-test.
Findings: Obstacles to the implementation of the educational system were categorized into 4 dimensions (process, policy, structural, functional), 11 components (such as lack of funds, weak technology) and 31 indicators. The most important challenges are: neglect of technological changes (mean: 4.83 out of 5) and limited financial incentives (mean: 4.83).
Conclusion: The research findings showed that the implementation of the comprehensive AJA training and education system in the field of air defense faces a series of challenges, including limited human and equipment resources, structural inconsistency, weakness in updating educational content in line with new technologies, and managerial obstacles. Overcoming these barriers requires an integrated approach, organizational support, investment in infrastructure development, and the use of up-to-date expertise and experience to improve the operational capacity and efficiency of the education system in this area. Focusing on e-learning and providing targeted financial resources can help improve the current situation. The findings of this study can serve as a basis for decision-making by armed forces education and training managers.
